Description:The day of the inspiration scramble was not a typical day in San Francisco. The sky was unusually vivid; the sunlight was in perfect contrast to the grey of the city structures, the bright colors of the markets and the profiles of surrounding dusky green hills. The team found inspiration everywhere – from the Clift Hotel to Chinatown, from the Haight to shadowy girders underneath the Golden Gate Bridge, from the everyday textures of the Embarcadero sidewalks to the “Painted Ladies” of Alamo Square.
With a city so full of inspiration, diverse people and ideas, all living side by side, the team was compelled to create a product that captures a bit of that personality. Juxtaposing the many things that give unique life to S.F. its bright and dark, neutrals and fluorescents, moments of texture and moments of calm.
With the help of Mannington's product designers, the team shaped their concept into patterns inspired by movement and mass transit, reminiscent of the power lines and tracks that carry cable cars and trolleys through the City’s many pathways. As the products evolved, they became more and more simple, with a final result that is clean, almost minimalist, both beautiful and essential, intrinsically rendered in color and texture.
