Description:When Team Chicago left Ian Schrager’s newest hotel, the Public, they spread out across the city armed with cameras and sketch pads. Three hours later, when they gathered to share their inspiration, they found a study in contrasts. Icons of architecture beside pocket parks of vivid green grass; the grit of the El against flagship stores of fashion brands. Grass and weeds pop up wherever they can, and in the reflection of the lake the city mimics itself.
The team quickly agreed that they wanted to create layers of visual meaning, like graffiti worn away by the elements, painted and repainted, in Wicker Park. To show the contrasts of chic elegance and edgy grit that give the city its unique sense of place.
Working with Mannington’s product development team, they developed their concept by using texture and depth to create visual interest. Bringing together layers of varying colors that, when dissected, create clean lines, and sophisticated coordinating patterns.
