Urban Patina

Description:From the first moment that Team Austin gathered at the W Hotel downtown, they wanted to create a refined collection inspired by the celebrated imperfection of this quirky city. To conceive of a product that was deeper than the famously "weird" – tapping the unique flavor, progressive style, and everyman roots that has made their city into a mecca for people who are fans of the unique and the beautiful.

Their search for inspiration took them into old neighborhoods and new developments, down sun-dappled streets and into the shadows of landmarks, to antique stores and the city's legendary food trucks. Gathered around the table or seated on the floor sharing photographs and brightly colored curios, they found connections between the imagery and the city's active lifestyle. They talked about the colors of earth, corrosion and succulents; halftones and screen printing; the way that corrugated metal, when it rusts, forms a protective layer; and most of all about the joy of finding unintentionally curated treasures, and the things that last.

Working with Mannington's product team, team Austin created patterns with a sense of weathering, and a style injected with graphic references that took shape in tonal designs. Strong visuals eroded by the happy accidents of nature's hand on the built environment.

Very nicely done. Simple and clean - would like to see some rustier colors used in the accent stripes. Done good.
